Description: This original botanical engraving depicts the sago palm, Sagus Farinifera, including trunk, flower structures, and fruit, accompanied by a human figure for scale. Sago was a crucial starch source in Southeast Asia.
Issued in Zenker’s Merkantilische Waarenkunde, the plate documents a staple food plant central to regional economies rather than European consumption.
Original hand coloring gives the palm strong sculptural presence.
