The composition is after a painting by François Bouchot, a leading French historical painter of the 19th century, and was engraved by Frilley for publication by Gavard in Paris. Although part of a larger series illustrating Napoleon’s career, this engraving stands strongly on its own as a complete and compelling image.
Condition: Good antique condition. Light foxing and age-related toning to the margins, consistent with age. The engraved image is clean and well-preserved, with a clear plate mark visible.
