Description: This finely executed hand-colored lithograph, titled Maragato (Madrid), is plate No. 14 from the Espagne & Portugal series in the Musée de Costumes, published in Paris by Maison Aubert around 1845. Drawn and engraved by J. Walz, this print presents the traditional attire of a Maragato — a member of a historic trading and muleteer community from the mountainous León region, whose distinctive dress and customs were renowned throughout Spain.
The figure is depicted standing confidently, leaning on a walking stick, and wearing the characteristic wide-brimmed hat, short jacket, and voluminous breeches that define the Maragato costume.
