Island of Philae from the First Cataract – Norden Egypt Engraving 1755
Description: This dramatic river view shows the Island of Philae as it appears when departing the First Cataract of the Nile. The temple complex is framed by rocky banks and open water, capturing one of ancient Egypt’s most sacred sites before modern alterations.
Norden’s depiction predates later 19th-century documentation and is valued for its early and relatively unromanticized portrayal of Philae. The plate combines navigational perspective with architectural clarity.
