Description: Impressive large-format map of the Ottoman Empire by Frederik de Wit, published in Amsterdam, c. 1710. The map extends from southeastern Europe and North Africa across the Middle East to Persia and the Caspian Sea, depicting the vast territories of the Ottoman Empire and surrounding regions. An inset at lower left shows the western Mediterranean and North African coast.
Copper engraving on laid paper with original hand-coloring. The decorative cartouche incorporates Ottoman imagery and a crescent emblem. Published from a plate by Frederik de Wit, one of the leading Amsterdam mapmakers of the Dutch Golden Age.
Frederik de Wit (1629–1706) established one of Amsterdam's most important cartographic publishing houses. Following his death, the business was briefly continued by his widow Maria before much of the plate stock was sold to Pieter Mortier.
Condition: Good condition for its age. Original central fold as issued, with general age toning, scattered spotting/foxing and minor handling wear. Some discoloration is visible along the fold and margins. Please review the images for further condition details.
