Description: A rare and scientifically important mid-19th century botanical chromolithograph depicting Isonandra gutta (gutta-percha tree), here shown as var. oblongifolia. This plate originates from the Dutch horticultural publication Tuinbouw-Flora van Nederland en zijne overzeesche bezittingen, issued in 1856 under the direction of botanist Willem Hendrik de Vriese.
The composition presents a refined study of the plant’s elongated, leathery leaves, rendered in a subtle palette ranging from deep green to warm ochre tones, capturing both mature and aging foliage. The arrangement is both aesthetically balanced and scientifically informative, with additional detailed line studies below illustrating the plant’s flowers, fruit, and internal structures.
